I came to Revolution earlier this year ready to reclaim my twenties. I was obese, self-conscious, embarrassed…and tired of feeling that way. I realised that it didn’t make sense to be athletic and fat anymore.
Having played NCAA Division III Varsity Soccer at Dickinson College, I knew that what I needed was a no-nonsense, disciplined coach and a different relationship with food.
The month before I started at Revolution, I put myself on a strict 1,200 calorie diet and an intense cardio regimen. I lost a lot of weight quickly (12 kg) but then plateaued…and my body shape looked the same. My solution wasn’t sustainable. To achieve my fitness goal, I needed someone with sport and nutritional expertise; someone who could help me to develop realistic goals, sensible meal plans and a weight training programme that was sensitive to my (lingering) sports injuries.
At Revolution, I got all of that and more. They revolutionised and re-energised my life: I lost 20kg, 1 inch from around my arm, 6.6 inches off my waist, 5 inches off my hips, 3.2 inches off my thighs and 20% of my total body fat. My trainer got to know me and my body’s limits and taught me not to push too hard too fast. I was introduced to new techniques/styles of working out and carefully corrected my form. My trainer helped me to realise that I used to hate working out (and had suffered a lot of unnecessary injuries) because I never built up the base level of fitness I needed to perform at the levels I was demanding of my body.
I can’t speak highly enough of Revolution. They make me laugh, challenge, and inspire me. I always look forward to our banter and come ready for a killer workout. My trainer has become my coach and my friend. If you pop by the studio you can probably find us working out to ‘Call me, maybe.’
